Designed by Desmond Muirhead and Colin Montgomerie, The Montgomerie is another five-star course enjoying growing popularity with overseas visitors. It embraces the traditions of a Scottish links course making it a unique golfing experience in this part of the world.
With 14 lakes and 81 bunkers, The Montgomerie Dubai adds a distinctive variety to the golfing landscape of the region. One of the signature hole designs, the par three 13th, boasts the largest single green in the world. With a total area of 58,000 sq feet, the equivalent of 9 greens, its island green can be played from a 360 degree teeing ground giving the advantage of a totally different hole each time you play.
The putting surfaces of Flora dwarf Ultra Dwarf Bermuda grass compliment the undulating nature of the fairways with generous landing areas and challenging pin positions. The large green surfaces will not only test shot making ability, but the deft touch required for low scoring.
One of the signature holes is the par 5 fourth, dubbed the Snake hole for its saddleback fairway which doglegs towards the green, with two bunkers behind forming the eyes of the snake. Further on, the par 5 ninth, with water down the left, is a tough finish to the opening half. The par 3 thirteenth, a hole designed in the shape of the UAE, boasts a 360 degree teeing area around an island fairway and green, allowing for a completely different golf hole to be played every time. However, it is the par 5 eighteenth that offers a more classic test. At 656 yards it is a monster and, with water protecting the front of the green, it defies even the best player to hit the green in two.
The Montgomerie, Dubai offers two very different seasons of golf. During winter, the golf course is over-seeded whilst the summer season has the course back to a full stand of Bermuda grass. The turf growth is vigorous during the summer resulting in a very challenging rough.
Covering more than two hundred acres, this spectacular golf course provides the player with undulating "links land" style fairways which challenge and intrigue all levels of player.
Colin Montgomerie is undoubtedly Scotland's most successful golfer, who has finished number one in Europe a record eight times. His golfing expertise and experience are clearly evident at this impressive course. Definitely a ‘must play'.
