Gran Canaria enjoys the distinction of housing the oldest golf club in Spain. It was inaugurated on 17th December 1891 on a site known as 'Lomo del Polvo'
In 1956 Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas was transferred to the plains of Bandama, situated close to an extinct volcano with a diameter of 800m and a depth of 200 m. This is a testimony to the volcanic origins of Gran Canaria some 14 million years ago
Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas has wonderful views of spectacular, deep ravines. Designed by Mackenzie Ross, it is a par 71, 18-hole course, with 2 putting greens, one of which is floodlit, a practice tee, pitching green, instructors, pro-shop, club hire service, a restaurant and an excellent wine cellar
There are also two tennis courts, a horse-riding area and a swimming pool. For those who prefer accommodation close to the course itself, there is a golf hotel
The heart of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, founded in 1478, is just a few Kilometres away. It has become a modern, cosmopolitan metropolis with a wide range of cultural and leisure activities as well as boasting one of the island's best beaches, namely Las Canteras
Major International players consider the course exceptional and throughout its long history has been the site of many tournament. Although in principle the club is only open to members, it admits visiting players on weekday mornings.
