Boavista Golf is situated in the Western Algarve, and it opened on the of 1st January 2002. It is located just 200 metres from the Atlantic, and close to one of the best known beaches on the Algarve (Praia da Luz). The Boavista golf course makes a major contribution to golfing facilities on the Western side of the Algarve.
This impressive 18 Hole Championship golf course has been designed by Howard Swan MSc, past president of The European Institute of Golf Course Architects. His philosophy is to create a course as if it has always been there. This has been sensitively applied at Boavista, preserving, integrating and harmonising with the area's natural terrain.
Boavista Golf Club offers superb facilities in a uniquely sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere. Half of the course is located in the National Agricultural Reserve surrounded by typical trees of the Algarve. Ancient ruins form the characteristic landscape of this versatile golf course with contrasting levels of difficulty, depending on the tee used for driving off.
The course offers a wide variety of holes with the 1st, a par 4, flanked by beautiful subtropical flowers. The most unforgettable of the first seven holes is the spectacular 7th , a par 4, built with the sea as a backdrop, and panoramic views sweeping from the coast at Praia da Luz across to the Serra de Monchique mountains.
The greatest challenges presented by the course are the par 3 holes, such as the 4th (with a narrow green sloping downwards), the 6th (a green with three levels) and the 14th (227 metres above sea level). The par 5 holes are designed to reward skilled play with possible birdies. The 13th and 16th holes are more than 500 metres long with greens protected by lakes. The presence of water is even more apparent at the 17th, which is a par 4 of great scenic beauty with lakes to the right and green ahead.
The 18th is a demanding finishing hole which is uphill and normally against a headwind. This is the last great test before a well earned rest in the welcoming Boavista clubhouse!
