Wimereux golf course is a links type course set above the cliffs on the coast, and directly overlooking the English channel. Views of the white cliffs of Dover can be seen on a clear day.
Wimereux is the regions oldest golf course, and like many links courses can be a monster when the weather is not so good. Wimereux golf course is not difficult, when the wind is low, and appears straightforward, however the natural terrain and undulating fairways will make the golfer think.
The fairways are very exposed with few trees and not many water hazards. This can make for tricky golf. Pot bunkers and thick rough can add to the difficulty at Wimereux.
Wimereux golf course is only 15 minutes form the more famous courses at Hardelot, a perfect course to include in your Golf Holidayto France or a golf weeend break to Le Touquet.
The signature hole at Wimereux is the Par 4 11th, which plays into the wind with wonderful views over the English Channel. A dog leg left that is difficult enough when the wind is low. Score a five here and it feels like a birdie. The Par 5 6th hole, is over 500 metres long and, again, plays directly into the wind. This can play like a Par 7 at times.
The clubhouse, although not big, is warm and welcoming with a good menu and fine range of wines. Buggies and trolleys are available for hire, and a good quality driving range and putting green are adjacent to the clubhouse.
Wimereux golf course is in complete contrast from all the surrounding courses in the area, and an experience that must not be missed.
