Abbeville Golf Club Picardie

Abbeville Golf golf course is set in the heart of Picardie directly on the Baie de Somme, which is famed for its Natural trails and one of the greatest birds watching spots in the world.

Abbeville has a serious laid back approach to the game and the late starting times at the weekends emphasizes this. They open at 9am at the weekends though you will see members on the course well before this time.

The course is both interesting and well kept with some spectacular holes especially the12 hole a 150 metre par three.

The start of the back nine at Abbeville contains three par five's on the trot and is no relief from the very undulating front nine.

With only six buggies available these MUST be booked early.

The 9th green is close enough to the club house to seek refreshments but don't give up there as the Double Dog Leg 17th is well worth the visit and is a warm up to the best hole (18th).

Clubhouse facilities are basic but adequate and the bar/pro shop area add to their laid back approach and there is a spacious Driving Range.

Because of the lack of other golf courses in the area (Belle Dune Golf Club 45 miles/St Saens Golf Club 60 miles) this course receives very little tourism and is unspoiled by the 'supermarket' golf on offer further north.

Short description about each hole at Abbeville Golf Club:-

  • Hole 1- 326m-Par 4
An undulating start, as this hole is all-uphill. Aim for the large tree behind the flag. This hole is shorter than it looks.
  • Hole 2-140m-Par 3
A fairly straight forward par 3. However, the green is narrow and long. If the rough is uncut then hit make sure you are straight.
  • Hole 3-404m-Par4
Stroke index two and mean if you are not long enough for the slight left hand dogleg. Again, like all the first five holes, the rough is long and 'Wheaty'.
  • Hole 4-289m-Par4
Downhill now! If you can catch a big draw here then you can go for the green. Don't be long!
  • Hole 5-454m-Par5
The first, and easiest, par 5. A very straight uphill hole. On your third shot to the green take an extra club, as it's longer than you think.
  • Hole 6-360m-Par4
A dramatic dog leg right and its almost a 90 degree turn. If you are a big hitter you can take out the corner but don't be short as its OOB.
  • Hole7-286m-Par4
Look at the bunkers on the left! The fairway slopes towards them and you ball will end up somewhere close. Take a 5-6 iron and be short of them.
  • Hole8-465m-Par5
A double dogleg par 5 that you will not enjoy. Unless you par it rather like the author did. Try and stay right from the big tee marker as this will help with the 2nd and 3rd shots.
  • Hole9-150m-Par3
A lovely hole that has a surrounding lake. From the tee you can see all the hole and all the folks watching from the club house
  • Hole10-423m-Par5
A short par 5 and very straight. If you have the energy then get the driver out again.
  • Hole11-380m-Par4
Don't get confused here! Play the 13th and not Hole 11b (like I did).
  • Hole12-140m-Par3
A spectacular overhead looking par 3. Only take a Pitching wedge! It will reach the green. Trouble to the right hand corner.
  • Hole13-360m-Par4
A lake hugs the left hand side here. Don't look at the 17th hole flag as it can get confusing. A very wide fairway as its shared with the hole 11b.
  • Hole14-286m-Par4
An uphill par 4. Don't get the driver out as you will be too long and end up in the long rough.
  • Hole15- 185m-Par3
A great looking Par 3 and a very hard green to hit. You can't be long, left or right so be straight.
  • Hole16-290m-Par4
A dramatic par 4. All downhill, so again get the driver out. He who dares..........!!
Another sloping fairway, so if you are not long you will be left. Rake these bunkers as you will visit them again on the next hole. Out of bounds to the right just to confuse you.
  • Hole17-476m-Par5
This one is narrow and when you do finally make the green you will find that even narrower. Beware the bunkers on the left, as you may have just visited them on the 16th.
  • Hole18-475m-Par5
The best thing about this hole is the green is close to the clubhouse. Get refreshments!
